Ball Interaction Metrics: How to Take Advantage of Them.

A new update is coming to the OLIVER app and promises to revolutionise football. The new functionality will allow for the measurement of new ball control metrics, including low-intensity, medium-intensity, and high-intensity kicks, as well as the total number of kicks. Here are some reasons why this is a crucial feature for players and coaches.

OLIVER and the Process of Developing New Features.

After a rigorous process of active listening, analysis, measurements, and experiments, the Sports Scientists team at OLIVER will offer users the ability to measure ball kicks according to their intensity. Thanks to constant dialogue with users, including physical trainers, coaches, and players, the need to incorporate these new metrics has been identified, allowing insight into a player's strengths and weaknesses with the ball.

The placement on the leg allows for the measurement of numerous aspects that traditional vests cannot. Some examples of football metrics are kick power, distance covered with the ball, and the new metrics related to ball interaction.

Ball Interaction: Specific Case of Application.

Rondo: 5x5m vs 8x8m

This function can be very useful for coaches. A very effective exercise is to measure the players' interaction with the ball in a rondo, varying the size of the space to compare the data.

By doing this, we can understand how the size of the field affects the players' ball interaction. This could give us an idea of our players' ability to solve problems in tight spaces to improve this aspect.

Why Measure Different Intensities in Ball Strikes?

  • Improves ball control. As mentioned earlier in the case of application, measuring the number of ball touches can help players focus on improving their control and ball skills. The more touches they make, the better they will be able to handle the ball, dribble, and maneuver around defenders.

  • Improves physical fitness. Football requires a lot of running, so giving more ball touches can help players improve their endurance, speed, and agility. This undoubtedly generates many opportunities for improvement.

  • Promotes healthy competition. Measuring ball control can also promote healthy competition among players. When they compete to see who can make the most touches it creates a sense of competition and motivation to improve. This undoubtedly helps players strive to be their best and, as a result, improve the overall performance of the team.

  • Allows for personalised training sessions. By measuring a player's ball interaction, coaches can identify each player's strengths and weaknesses and then adapt training sessions and exercises accordingly. This can help players develop the necessary skills to excel in their specific positions.

The new update to the OLIVER app has been available since the beginning of April, and thousands of users have already been able to enjoy this functionality. This new tool is added to others created in recent months, such as report generation, insights visualisation, comparisons with elite players, and tips (including videos) to improve specific metrics.

OLIVER continues to grow both in customers and product quality, seeking to become the most chosen tool by coaches, players, and footballers worldwide.
